USAID De-Risking Pay-As-You-Go Solar Home Systems in Uganda Refugee Settlements Grants Program

The project aims to accelerate off-grid investment and energy access by incentivizing private sector companies to recognize the market and business development potential in refugee settlements and host communities. This Grants Program will provide funding support to selected PAYGO SHS companies to de-risk potential investments for market entry into Kiryandongo and Rwamwanja refugee settlements and their host communities. Lessons and experiences gained through this project may provide a catalyst for future private sector energy access interventions. Grant awards will further innovation, and reduce the knowledge, product, financial, and risk barriers to serving refugee communities and host communities.


Off-Grid Clean Energy Facility: Benin

The Off-Grid Clean Energy Facility (OCEF) aims to increase access to electricity for  the currently unserved population in rural and peri-urban areas of Benin by reducing barriers to investment in the off-grid electric power sector.

The objectives of the OCEF are to improve the availability of electricity and access to electricity for public infrastructure, businesses, communities and households, to stimulate the off-grid electrification market in Benin, and to increase the adoption and use of energy efficiency appliances and measures.


USAID-Power Africa Solar Home System Kick-Starter Program for Malawi

Deadline: March 27, 2019 (deadline extended)

The USAID – Power Africa SHS kickstarter program is aimed to catalyze and stimulate the market in the short term over 3 years (2019-2021). The kickstarter program has 5 key components including:

  1. A $1.5 Million Results Based Financing (RBF) Grant Facility aimed at stimulating the sale/provision of 150,000 new SHS off-grid connections.
  2. Access to working capital; debt and equity finance from various local financial institutions
  3. Operation Support i.e. technical assistance to SHS companies
  4. A Consumer Solar Awareness and Education Campaign.
  5. Policy and Regulatory Reform initiatives including strengthening fiscal incentives and support like VAT & Duty Exemptions

EEP Africa Gender-themed Call for Proposals

Deadline: April 2, 2019

This call is focused on promoting leadership and economic opportunities for women across the clean energy sector. We are seeking applications that propose innovative approaches to gender inclusion while also supporting core business objectives and growth. Projects will be evaluated based on concept innovation, development impact, business model and financial sustainability. Applications from women entrepreneurs and women-led organisations are strongly encouraged.

Applicants can apply for early-stage grants and repayable grants between EUR 200,000 – 500,000. The minimum required co-financing is 30% of the total project budget. All applications need to demonstrate clear additionality of EEP funding.


Women MSME FinTech Innovation Fund

UNCDF, in collaboration with UNESCAP, is launching an Innovation Fund on digital solutions for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in Asia-Pacific. 

The Innovation Fund goal is to co-fund and provide technical support for companies to pilot innovative digital solutions and/or digital financial solutions which support women-owned, managed and/or led MSMEs. 

The applicant can be based anywhere globally, but the project must target women-owned, managed or led MSMEs in one or more of the target countries. The target countries include: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, Myanmar, Nepal, Samoa, and Viet Nam.

Zayed Sustainability Prize 2020

The Zayed Sustainability Prize (www.ZayedSustainabilityPrize.com) submissions for the 2020 edition are open to applicants from across the African continent. The UAE’s pioneering global award for rewarding innovation, impact and inspiration in sustainable development solutions has announced that from 30thJanuary to 30thMay, it will be inviting organisations and schools to submit their entries in one of its five categories: Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools.

Winners of each category will receive US$600,000 in prize funds to enhance and develop their existing solution. In the Global High Schools category, six schools from six world regions will receive up to US$100,000 each, to create or enhance a school or local community project.

USICEF invites distributed solar power project developers who operate in the following categories in India to apply for support: Mini-Grid & Micro-Grid Power Generation, Market-Based Solutions, Renewable Energy Infrastructure Catalyzers.


PFAN Call for Proposals for Climate & Clean Energy Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa

PFAN has launched a call for proposals for climate and clean energy projects and businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa. Selected projects will receive coaching from experienced professionals and will be introduced to interested investors. Entrepreneurs looking to initiate or scale-up clean energy or other climate change-related projects and seeking an investment of up to $50 million are invited to apply.
