4th Energy Innovation Competition

The 4th Energy Innovation Challenge is set to upscale the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. Across Africa, the main energy challenge is to rapidly deliver modern energy services to millions of households and businesses using sustainable and affordable energy technologies.

This competition challenges early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries to develop practical and sustainable energy products/services/prototype models for a social enterprise or energy management system using local resources

7th cycle IRENA/ADFD Project Facility

Deadline: February 14, 2019

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is pleased to announce the opening of the seventh cycle of the IRENA/ADFD Project Facility.

More than USD 50 million in concessional loans from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) are available for government-driven and national priority renewable energy projects in developing countries that are replicable, scalable and potentially transformative. 

Summary project proposals for this funding cycle will be accepted through the Facility’s online system between 12 November 2018 and 14 February 2019, however applicants can begin working on their proposals online now.


P4G Partnership facilitation and funding

Deadline: February 15, 2019

P4G Partnerships include both private and public-sector organizations who are working together to advance innovative and commercially viable project(s) in at least one of these five SDG sectors: food and agriculture, water, energy, cities, and circular economy. The partners can come from any country, but their work must target green growth in one of these 150 countries. We provide P4G Partnerships with facilitation, funding, and recognition to support their growth. Our goal is to help these partnerships demonstrate market success and replicability.


The smarter E AWARD

In 2018, The smarter E AWARD emerged from the joining of these topics and shines a spotlight on solutions and concepts that draw on renewable energy, decentralization, and digitalization to intelligently connect all aspects of energy in the electricity, heating and transportation sectors.
The smarter E AWARD pays tribute to these innovations in two categories. The Smart Renewable Energy category honors outstanding, innovative business models and pioneering solutions in the area of sector coupling, while the Outstanding Projects category recognizes realized projects undertaken in the areas of solar, storage, energy management and clean transportation.


Intersolar AWARD

The Intersolar AWARD is presented to companies making a substantial contribution to the success of the industry. Each year, the award honors technological innovations and groundbreaking solutions around the topic of the AWARD category Photovoltaics.
Over a period of more than 10 years, the flagship award for the solar industry has given solar companies a unique platform to gain broad international recognition and distinguish themselves from the competition.


ees (electrical energy storage) AWARD

Introduced in 2014, the ees AWARD is devoted to the electrical energy storage solutions behind the clean energy of tomorrow. The award pays tribute to pioneering products and solutions for stationary and mobile electrical energy storage systems. The range of innovations encompasses the entire value-added chain of innovative battery and energy storage technologies – from components to concrete applications and business models.


Powering Opportunities Partnership - Call for Expression of Interest for Productive Energy Use action research projects in sub-Saharan Africa

The Powering Opportunities Partnerships (POP) is one of the constituent projects of TEA’s Supporting Clean Energy Partnerships programme. POP aims to demonstrate how the off-grid energy sector can stimulate local jobs and create local economic value in Sub-Saharan Africa, via a challenge fund supporting proposals that demonstrate innovation, partnerships and the potential for scalability and impact.

A total budget of at least £675,000 has been made available in this round for grants to successful applicants. A minimum of 50% co-funding (either financial or in-kind) is a prerequisite for proposal consideration. This competition seeks to fund 3 to 4 projects. Funding to be requested from TEA-POP for each project should not exceed £300,000. Smaller expressions of interest are welcome.

Off-Grid Clean Energy Facility: Benin

The Off-Grid Clean Energy Facility (OCEF) aims to increase access to electricity for  the currently unserved population in rural and peri-urban areas of Benin by reducing barriers to investment in the off-grid electric power sector.

The objectives of the OCEF are to improve the availability of electricity and access to electricity for public infrastructure, businesses, communities and households, to stimulate the off-grid electrification market in Benin, and to increase the adoption and use of energy efficiency appliances and measures.

Unreasonable East Africa 2018 month programs

We provide multidimensional support to entrepreneurs and their businesses across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. Our team and network of experts have either built their own businesses, or have specific experience and expertise in multiple areas related to building a successful business. This includes – but is not limited to! – strategic planning, raising investment, building efficient & effective operations, sales, marketing and team building.

We select and exclusive group of 10-15 businesses for each of our 10-month programs.

US-India Clean Energy Finance Initiative Call for Applications

USICEF aims to accelerate progress towards India’s renewable energy and energy access goals, by supporting early stage development of distributed solar power projects and helping to catalyze long-term financing. USICEF invites distributed solar power project developers who operate in the following categories in India to apply for support: Mini-Grid & Micro-Grid Power Generation, Market-Based Solutions, Renewable Energy Infrastructure Catalyzers.


PFAN Call for Proposals for Climate & Clean Energy Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa

Deadline: open-ended call for proposals without a deadline

PFAN has launched a call for proposals for climate and clean energy projects and businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa. Selected projects will receive coaching from experienced professionals and will be introduced to interested investors. Entrepreneurs looking to initiate or scale-up clean energy or other climate change-related projects and seeking an investment of up to $50 million are invited to apply.
