Zayed Sustainability Prize 2020

The Zayed Sustainability Prize (www.ZayedSustainabilityPrize.com) submissions for the 2020 edition are open to applicants from across the African continent. The UAE’s pioneering global award for rewarding innovation, impact and inspiration in sustainable development solutions has announced that from 30thJanuary to 30thMay, it will be inviting organisations and schools to submit their entries in one of its five categories: Health, Food, Energy, Water and Global High Schools.

Winners of each category will receive US$600,000 in prize funds to enhance and develop their existing solution. In the Global High Schools category, six schools from six world regions will receive up to US$100,000 each, to create or enhance a school or local community project. 


AECF REACT Household Solar (HS) Programme (Round 2)

Deadline: May 31, 2019

REACT HS Programme seeks to address a critical component of United Kingdom’s Department for International Development’s (DFID) Africa Clean Energy (ACE) Programme. It aims to increase access to clean, affordable energy for low-income people in Africa by promoting a market-based approach for private sector delivery of solar home system products and services in the target countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The solar home systems are stand-alone photovoltaic systems that offer a cost-effective mode of supplying clean renewable energy for lighting, appliances and cooking, to remote off-grid households for better wellbeing and livelihood opportunities for rural poor people. The programme is in two phases.

REACT HS Round 2: With a commitment of USD 20.8 million (GBPs 16 million), the competition will be launched in quarter two 2019. This round will target companies in Ethiopia, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana and Somalia.

***NEW*** SDG Results: Access to renewable energy (SDG 7 Results)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with executer Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl), uses the SDG 7 Results facility as a contribution to sustainable development goals achievements in developing countries. In particular SDG 7.

SDG 7 Results' objective is to give 2 million people in developing countries access to renewable energy. Projects should contribute to the following result areas:

  1. access to electricity in homes

  2. access to clean cooking in homes

The facility also contributes to the following additional goals:

  • low-carbon climate resilient development

  • less gender inequality, in particular with regards to women and girls

  • private sector development and employment

  • mobilisation of private investments in the decentralised renewable energy sector.

The available budget for the first tender round is €11.25 million. Each project can apply for a grant of at least €250,000 and no more than €2.5 million.

US-India Clean Energy Finance Initiative Call for Applications

USICEF aims to accelerate progress towards India’s renewable energy and energy access goals, by supporting early stage development of distributed solar power projects and helping to catalyze long-term financing. USICEF invites distributed solar power project developers who operate in the following categories in India to apply for support: Mini-Grid & Micro-Grid Power Generation, Market-Based Solutions, Renewable Energy Infrastructure Catalyzers.


PFAN Call for Proposals for Climate & Clean Energy Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa

Deadline: open-ended call for proposals without a deadline

PFAN has launched a call for proposals for climate and clean energy projects and businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa. Selected projects will receive coaching from experienced professionals and will be introduced to interested investors. Entrepreneurs looking to initiate or scale-up clean energy or other climate change-related projects and seeking an investment of up to $50 million are invited to apply.
